Dr. Handler specializes in the field of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This unique specialty treats the eyelids, eyebrows, tear duct system, orbit, and surrounding areas of the face. To master this specialty, Dr. Handler completed medical school, four years of ophthalmic surgery training, and became a board-certified ophthalmologist. Then, Dr. Handler completed two years of extensive, advanced oculofacial plastic surgery training, qualifying examinations and a scientific thesis to meet the membership requirements of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
Only several hundred doctors in the United States are dedicated to the specialty of oculofacial plastic surgery. It takes years of highly specialized training to safely perform procedures on the delicate tissues around your eyes and face. Since such surgery can affect your vision, an oculofacial plastic surgeon like Dr. Handler is best qualified to perform this sophisticated surgery and also provide the care that the eye itself may need.
